Seat Launches Ultimate Sub8 Performance Pack for Leon Cupra 280

Published: Sat Feb 07, 2015 by Marko P.  |  Source: Seat

Spanish automaker has launched a performance package for the Leon Cupra 280 which mirrors the exact specification of the record-setting car on the Nurburgring.

The Leon was the first front-wheel production car to dip under the magic eight-minute Nurburgring Nordschleife lap time in 2014. It set a time of 7:58.44, which was beaten a few months later by the Renault Megane RS Trophy-R with a 7:54.36.

At the time, the automaker said that the record was achieved with a production car equipped with an optional Sub8 Performance Pack, but it later emerged that the record-setting car also had other features not found in the package. With the release of the "Ultimate Sub8 Performance Pack", Seat has now resolved this issue.

Seat claims that the Leon SC Cupra 280 fitted with the "Ultimate Sub8 Performance Pack" is no impractical trackday toy, but its hard to imagine anyone other than the most hard-core fans will order it. Priced at 4,200 British pounds ($6,200) in the UK, the package keeps the rear seats and a radio, but takes away 4 of the 8 speakers, it swaps the climate control for a simple heater, removes center console arm rest and rear air vents, and even bins the storage boxes under the front seats.

The rest of the pack is as per the standard "Sub8 Performance Pack", which means lightweight multi-spoke 19-inch alloys in black or orange, 30mm larger brakes with Brembo callipers and body-colored side skirts. Semi-slick Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires can be included too for 460 pounds ($680).

Keeping it extremely simple for customers, there's the usual choice of six-speed manual or DSG transmission, but, in keeping with its stripped back approach, no options.

As well as a supreme driving experience, it also retains another Cupra hallmark, its high-end equipment features. Among them are DCC (Dynamic Chassis Control) and Cupra Drive Profile, providing the choice of Normal, Sport, Cupra and Individual settings, to adjust the suspension, throttle sensitivity, gearbox and engine note, according to the whim of the driver's mood. There's also cruise control, rear parking sensors, touchscreen satellite navigation and tire pressure monitor.

The "Ultimate Sub8 Performance Pack" can be specified now with all new Leon SC Cupra 280 orders.
