2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (Z07) vs. 2016 Dodge Viper ACR

Published: Thu Jan 07, 2016 by Randy Wellington  |  Categories: Chevrolet, Dodge  |  Source: MotorTrend

MotorTrend tries the two American supercars on the road and at the Laguna Seca race track.

The 2015 Z06 is the most track-capable Corvette in history and stretches the performance envelope. The heart of the 2015 Corvette Z06 is the all-new LT4 6.2L supercharged V-8 engine, delivering 650 horsepower (485 kW) and 650 lb-ft of torque (881 Nm). The track-focused Z07 Performance Package found on the car in the video adds unique components for more aerodynamic downforce, Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup tires for enhanced grip, and Brembo carbon ceramic-matrix brake rotors that improve braking performance. The Corvette Z06 with Z07 package is faster than even the ZR1.

Street-legal, but designed to wring every last hundredth of a second out of road course lap times, the 2016 Dodge Viper ACR combines the latest in aerodynamic, braking and tire technology. At the heart of the 2016 Viper ACR is the handcrafted, all-aluminum 8.4-liter V-10 overhead-valve engine, rated at 645 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque - the most torque of any naturally aspirated sports-car engine in the world. The Extreme Aero Package includes a huge (1,876-mm wide) adjustable dual-element rear wing, rear carbon fiber diffuser, unique SRT hood with removable louvers, detachable extension for the front splitter and four dive planes.
