Autocar is the first magazine to pit two of the three newest hybrid hypercars
against each other in a standing mile race.
The Porsche 918 Spyder, McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari are all battling for supremacy in the new supercar era, each of them with their own unique engine and electric motor setup.
Unable to find a Ferrari LaFerrari for this drag race, Autocar was forced to resort to another limited-edition, high-performance vehicle from Italy: the Ducati 1199 Superleggera. Although it only has two cylinders and 1.2 liters of displacement, it makes over 200 horsepower and is very light because of its magnesium monocoque body with carbon fiber bodywork.
In comparison, the all-wheel drive Porsche 918 Spyder (in this case equipped with the optional Weissach Salzburg Racing package which shaves 90 lb off from its weight) has 875 hp and the McLaren P1 has 903 hp.
See how all three compare against each other in this fascinating video.
